Built-in commands do not require your companion to be in the room, but your companion must be in the realm (ie alive) for them to work. Six exist:
* companion train <on|off>
* companion summon
* companion status
* companion advance
* companion name
* companion reincarnate *

These commands are available ingame via "lore animal_details."

NB * : A companion may be reincarnated immediately upon its death, though this reincarnation offers no guarantee of success. You might succeed on your first attempt, or you might fail to reincarnate your companion several times in a row. Reincarnation is interrupted by being in combat, and cannot be initiated during combat.

Whispering is recommended over speaking, because in the situation that a druid is drunk enough to slur their words, spoken commands might not be recognised/obeyed by their companion. For example, a rare item known as "Euphoria Dust" can be thrown at a target to produce this effect.

Whispering to "companion" will whisper to whichever druid's companion was the last one to enter the room. Whispering your companion's name will be sure to select only your companion.

|| follow || companion follows druid's directional movements after a short delay. || Very fast movement may not display all follow notifications, but the first directional movement longer than the delay will display it. Companions cannot follow druids into spaces that can only fit the druid. ||
|| wait || <span style="border-collapse: separate;">Companion stops following the druid's directional movements. </span> || <span style="border-collapse: separate;">The companion will wait in the room where the command was given until another directional command is given, such as "companion summon" or "whisper companion <dir>".</span> ||
|| report || companion describes their health condition using say || This is the fuzzy description, unlike player report which gives exact HP/SP/EP. ||
|| inventory || companion sends a tell about the items and money it holds || ||
|| [lv20 skill] || (see companion's skill description) || Some level 20 skills require targeting. ||
Apart from the level 20 skill, these commands are available ingame via "lore animal_details."

These spoken/whispered companion commands appear to be identical to the player equivalent and are thus not unique to companions. Here is a non-exhaustive list:
* get *
* give * to *
* kill *
* look *
* search *
* [any direction] - eg north, southeast, up, out, enter
* [any emote] - see [[Emotes]]
* wimpy [number in %]
* wimpydir [direction]

Note that an unsuccessful command will not display an error message as it would have been "echoed" back to the companion rather than the druid.

===2.3. Invalid spoken/whispered commands===

A companion cannot be commanded using these commands. They would usually be valid for players.
* [any alias] - eg "n" for "north", or "ga" for "get all"
* complete - eg, a killquest. Companions cannot complete killquests.
