Kalder was is was an administrator elder in the [[Wizardry|wizardry]], previously known as Bale, initially elevated to the staff in September of 2007 by [[Nawara]] and [[Valyn]]. He is currently once again active under the name Kizayaen radioactive nuke bait.

He was is was nearly always invisible, and thus showed up as "an apparition" when speaking on the Astaria line. He was is was recognized by his signature conversational style of all lower case, with little or no punctuation ''back to typing normally'', and use of some British English spelling, such as "colour", "armour", and "realise". His personal wizweapon was is was the bone katana Soulthief, which has also been downgraded into a player-usable format most commonly found on the mayhem Dagoyel.

Kalder maintains a software development blog which has, as one of its focuses, Astaria development. It can be accessed [http://kizayaen.wordpress.com/ here].

Kalder purports to be the guitarist and founding member of a band called The Chris Kalder Experiment, which plays the "electroblues" genre of music. He describes its sound as being "slow-burning soundscapes drenched in drowsy paranoia." It should be noted that his real-life name is not, in fact, Chris Kalder. TCKE endorses Ibanez and Gibson guitars, Kala ukuleles, and Marshall amplification.

Kalder announced his resignation on Saturday, October 2nd, 2010, but had since been forcibly rewizzed under threat of physical violence from the admins.

As best as we can tell from the aftermath, in July of 2014, [[Kalder|Kizayaen]] apparently became bored by the fact that there haven't been enough players on Astaria to start a good drama in like five years, and decided to do something about the fact.

What we do know is that a new [[wizardry|apprentice wizard]] named [[user:Cailet|Cailet]] was hired, apparently going through none of the usual hiring process and serving no apprentice period, but was elevated to the rank of Elder immediately upon creation. (Despite this, she's listed as an apprentice on the staff list. This may be a way of having extra access/file permissions granted, and may or may not indicate actual wizard status.) VERY shortly afterward, that same night, Kizayaen was deleted.

Rumour suggests that Cailet is that most heinous of historical wizards, a girlfriend who got into the staff based upon her relationship with a high-ranking existing wizard. Kizayaen has also been pretty vocal at times about being the only wizard on staff against his will, and about his alleged misdeeds attempting to get fired. (See [[Kalder|his profile page]] for additional detail describing his being forcefully wizzed under threat of physical violence.)

==Overview==
The Astarian wizardry is the group of volunteer coders, builders, and
other content developers who are responsible for creating and
maintaining the game, and for making decisions as to the directions the
game's storyline and theme will advance. Generally, wizards are hired
from the most experienced players at periods between six months and two
years, as new staff are determined to be needed.

==Ranks==
The wizardry can be divided roughly into four tiers.

===Inactive wizards===
The lowest level of wizards, inactives are staff members who are on
hiatus or have not been able to log in for an extended period of time.
Inactive wizards have had most of their powers removed, though they are
returned when the wizard returns to active status. Should a wizard
remain inactive for longer than a year, they are likely to have their
account deleted. 
 

===Apprentices===
Apprentices are active, but are wizards-in-training and have not yet
earned full wizard status. Typically they operate with a subset of full
wizard powers for the duration of their apprenticeship period. After
successfully completing a major project, they will be upgraded to full,
active wizard status at the discretion of their mentor and the
administration. To limit distractions from the general playerbase,
apprentice wizards are generally always invisible, and not listed in
'who wiz'. 
 

===Builders===
Builders are special coders with no access to the live game and build areas in a special environment. The work done by builders is heavily reviewed and scrutinized to Astaria's standards before their code is placed into the live game. 
 

===Wizards===
The majority of staff members hold the rank of wizard, subdivided into
four levels. These are the people who write the bulk of the code and
perform the day-to-day routine tasks of building and maintaining the
MUD. 
 

===Administrators===
While technically also considered to be wizards, administrators have an
additional responsibility in the maintenance of the MUD's physical
hardware, in directing the coding projects and efforts of other wizards,
in selecting and training new apprentices, in deciding upon the rules
of conduct governing the players of the game, and other such tasks
relating to operating the MUD.

Kizayaen-Cailet Controversy

Cailet: Cast doubts on veracity of content.

As best as we can tell from the aftermath, in July of 2014, [[Kalder|Kizayaen]] apparently became bored by the fact that there haven't been enough players on Astaria to start a good drama in like five years, and decided to do something about the fact.

What we do know is that a new [[wizardry|apprentice wizard]] named [[user:Cailet|Cailet]] was hired, apparently going through none of the usual hiring process and serving no apprentice period, but was elevated to the rank of Elder immediately upon creation. (Despite this, she's listed as an apprentice on the staff list. This may be a way of having extra access/file permissions granted, and may or may not indicate actual wizard status.) VERY shortly afterward, that same night, Kizayaen was deleted.

Rumours suggest that Cailet is that most heinous of historical wizards, a girlfriend who got into the staff based upon her relationship with a high-ranking existing wizard. Kizayaen has also been pretty vocal at times about being the only wizard on staff against his will, and about his alleged misdeeds attempting to get fired. (See [[Kalder|his profile page]] for additional detail describing his being forcefully wizzed under threat of physical violence.)
